Financial & Budget Updates
- Budget Status: The association is $5,000 under budget, driven by $2,800 in excess income and $2,100 in underspending.
- Approved Landscaping Amendment: Members approved a $1,706 amendment to cover $1,500 in pine straw installation for neighborhood entryways and three months of landscaping maintenance at $220/month.
Zoning & Local Development
- 1728 Marvin St: A variance request for a second-floor home addition was approved by the membership. UHNA Rep Eva will take this to NPU-D August 25.
- Upper West Market Event Space: The association voted (13-1-7) to recommend approval for a Special Use Permit and liquor license for Novere Events, despite resident concerns regarding parking and short notice. Residents can attend the NPU-D meeting to ask further questions and vote their wishes.
- Property Tax Assessments: Updates were shared on local efforts addressing the undervaluation of Atlanta commercial “trophy” properties and data centers.
Traffic & Infrastructure
- Roads & Autonomous Vehicles: Discussions with city officials are ongoing regarding repaving Marvin Road and installing “no-through” signs to mitigate traffic from autonomous vehicles (e.g., Waymo).
- CID Projects: The Upper West Side CID reported ongoing progress on the Chattahoochee Avenue multi-use path and plans for a mural at the Collier underpass.
Public Safety
- APD Zone 2 Update: Officers shared local crime updates, noting that most stolen vehicles in the area were e-bikes.
- Neighborhood Patrol Reminders: Always call 911 for emergencies rather than contacting the patrol directly. Vacation house-watching checks are available for subscribers.
Community Events & Social
- Upcoming Events: Weekly Friday playgroups continue at the park at 4:00 PM, and Ladies’ Night will return in October.
- Social Media: UHNA’s Instagram recently reached over 115,000 views on a viral neighborhood trash can video.
Resident Action Items & Volunteer Opportunities
- Open Leadership Roles: Volunteers are needed to fill the Beautification Chair and Sponsorship Chair positions. Email for info.
- NPU-D Meeting: Residents are encouraged to attend the upcoming NPU-D meeting August 25 to voice input on the West House / Novere Events Special Use Permit.
